Her nervous empty stomach churned on air and its own juices. Shoulders dropped from hugging her ears and her heartbeat lowered. JJ was safe and finally home. No sooner relaxed did the hair on Susan’s neck come to attention. The black SUV pulling up to the curb looked like the one he told her about. The one from his parent’s murder. Her scream vibrated the windows and he hesitated a second, then sprinted through the door she opened. They cowered by the window, peeking over the sill.
