Users can visit our site anonymously. The main content, e.g. the stories, is locked and requires login, which is not anonymous.

What personal data do we collect and why do we collect it

When registering on our site, you are asked to enter your name, email address, mailing address, phone number or other details to create your profile and help you with your experience.

 

Credit card information: we use PayPal as a payment portal. The transactions are done on their site and nothing regarding your details, other than the fact that you used PayPal, is saved on this site.

 

How do we protect your information?

Our website is scanned on a regular basis for security holes and common vulnerabilities in order to make your visit to our site as safe as possible.

 

We use regular Malware Scanning.

We have an SSL certificate.

 

When do we collect information?

We collect information from you when you register on our site, post, subscribe to a newsletter or enter information on our site.

 

How do we use your information?

We may use the information we collect from you when you register, make a purchase, sign up for our newsletter, respond to a survey or marketing communication, surf the website, or use certain other site features in the following ways:

This is a WordPress site. WordPress does not collect any personal data about visitors, and only collects the data shown on the User Profile screen from registered users however, some plugins do collect personal data.

 

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

 

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. Read more about the privacy policyof this plugin.

Cookies – How do we know how long the data is stored?

 

We use cookies for tracking purposes, for example, if you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

 

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

 

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Paid Membership Pro: This is the profile creation plugin we use.

Webinar Jam: We use Webinar Jamfor our Short Story School classes.

At checkout, we will collect your name, email address, username, and password. This information is used to setup your account for our site. If you are redirected to an offsite payment gateway to complete your payment, we may store this information in a temporary session variable to setup your account when you return to our site.

 

When logged in, we use cookies to track some of your activity on our site including logins, visits, and page views.

 

Buddy Press: Works in conjunction with the above plugin to make the community aspects of the site possible

 

Social Media Platforms: If you sign-up or login using a social media platform you grant them access to your information. You can manage this from within the social media platform. We use the Ultimate Social Media PLUS.

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your Personally Identifiable Information unless we provide users with advance notice.

We may also release information when its release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect our or others’ rights, property or safety.

 

However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

We don’t do this yet, but we will update this section as soon as we do.

 

Google’s advertising requirements can be summed up by Google’s Advertising Principles. They are put in place to provide a positive experience for users.

(Not yet, but in future) We use Google AdSense Advertising on our website. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on our site. Google’s use of the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to our users based on previous visits to our site and other sites on the Internet. Users may opt-out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google Ad and Content Network privacy policy.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

 

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

 

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Akismet

We collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use our Akismet anti-spam service. The information we collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).
